Born in Charleston and privileged to grow up in the 1950’s on the sparsely populated Sullivan's Island, Norma is thoroughly immersed and respectful of the people, places and culture of the Carolina Lowcountry. After a 35-year respite devoted to raising her two children and completing a career with BellSouth, Norma is 'painting like a mad woman'. "It is now time to pursue my passion and explore the wonders of painting!", she exclaims. Don't be surprised to see her climbing through bushes, wrapped up in an easel on the side of the road, leaping from a moving car to capture points of interest, and covered in paints from head to toe. Her paintings represent the spirit of an empty nester that has now been set free to fulfill a lifelong dream!
Norma delights in capturing unique people, wildlife, places and experiences not only in the Carolina Lowcountry but also around the world as she travels. She credits her 'roots' in art to Virginia Fouche Bolton, her very dedicated and enthusiastic high school art teacher. As a symbol of her thanks and praise to our Creator, the greatest painter of all, the cross is part of her signature on each painting. She studied at the College of Charleston and continues her studies with a variety of artists and served as President of the Charleston Artist Guild. Original oils and giclee prints are available through the Lowcountry Artist Gallery located at 148 East Bay Street, Charleston, SC. Commissions for paintings are thankfully and cheerfully welcomed.
